The Mosaic Covenant

Historical background

In 1870 the archaeologist Sir Henry Rawlinson published the Legend of Sargon. He had found it in the library of Ashurbanipal while excavating Nineveh. The Legend of Sargon reads that Sargon, later emperor of Akkadia, was born in secret from a changeling mother and set in a basket of rushes sealed with a lid. The hebrew word for the basket is teba means box and is the same word used for Noah's ark which saved him from the waters.  He was found by a drawer of water and brought up by him. He rose through the ranks to establish the first Mesopotamian empire. Moses had a similar birth and rises in the same way to be an Egyptian military leader.
